- --OK,
- --
- --Heres the scoop. I have a USR courier flashed to the latest 33.6 US ROM, and
- I
- --cannot connect *anywhere* without it doing a retrain.
- --
- --This is the sequence: dial, connect, CD goes high, MR goes high, ARQ goes
- high
- --(all simultaneously) , then ARQ goes low, MR goes low, MR goes high, ARQ
- goes
- --high (one by one).
- --
- --During this 'retrain' process, the brain dead WIN 95 DUN dialer still tries
- to
- --connect, assumes that PPP is not the right protocol, and tries to use
- NETBEUI,
- --(which I disabled), and it gives me a "PROTOCOL" error, and then will refuse
- --to connect using PPP until I restart win 95. Crap! I'm forced to use the
- dial
- --up scripter app, and I configured a script to allow keyboard use, and it
- just
- --sits there and waits until the modem retrains and then I have to login
- --manually. That works at least.
- --
- --USR gave me a few init strings to try, but it seems that I'm getting hit
- with
- --some nasty bler counts (via ATI6). At least the courier retrains to 28.8
- --99 percent of the time. :)
- --
- --Any ideas or suggestions would be welcomed.

- That sounds more like a line quality problem. Have you had the phone company
- check out your line? V.34 is very sensitive to the slightest degredation in
- dB and signal loss. Also, with a Courier, the only init string I have ever
- needed for any comm application is AT&F1. Of course, Win95 may have some odd
- requirement or need that I've never encountered on any other application or
- OS.
